  • Al Gore for President
[News-and-Society:Politics] In my small way I have been supporting Hillary Clinton for American President. All of four articles on my blog show my personal vote. As can be seen the American Presidency is not at the top of my list of priorities. The lack of enthusiasm is probably due to the fact that the Americans showed such bad judgement during the last two elections. I love the American people, they are a great nation. I just have no time for their current Pres. He is guilty of crimes against humanity.
  • How to Make a Million Dollars – Step Seven
[Self-Improvement:Success] Previously I have discussed five steps towards making a Million Dollars. These were passion, hard work, perseverance, the ability to cope with failure and still continue and belief in yourself and that you could do it. The next one I would recommend would be focus.
  • Old Before Your Time?
[Self-Improvement:Self-Esteem] I read an interesting statistic today on a blog I was reading. There are 40 000 people in the USA today that are 100+ years old. It is anticipated that by 2050 there will be 1 million aged 100 or over. That is a fair number of people. Of course the forty thousand are also part of the 80 million people aged 50+ living in the USA currently.
  • Google The New Big Brother
[Computers-and-Technology] For some time now, the warm and fuzzy feelings towards Google have dissipated to be replaced by a certain unease. What is Google up to?
  • The Debate Is Over Says Schwarzenegger
[News-and-Society:Environmental] You’ve got to give it to the man. Here is a World Body Building Champ, turned Hollywood actor and icon and now Governor of California stating the case for the environment and global warming.
  • The Search for Little Madeleine
[News-and-Society:Crime] My heart goes out for this little girl and her parents. It is now 16 or so days since she was taken from her bed and no news is bad news when it has been this long since her abduction.
  • BT Glows While the Royal Post Offices are Shut Down
[Business] Within a six year period Sir Christopher Bland managed to turn around the fortunes of a then ailing BT into a possible global player in the telecoms arena.
  • What About the War in Iraq, Mr Brown?
[News-and-Society:Politics] The news in the UK today has been all about Gordon Brown and his candidacy to become the next leader of the New Labour Party and with that the next British Prime Minister. He will move next door, so to speak.
  • How to Make a Million Dollars – Step Six
[Finance:Wealth-Building] The next important step would be to define our goals exactly, peg a delivery date and keep that goal in mind at all times.
  • Give Up On I Can’t
[Self-Improvement:Motivation] Quite frankly this is the killer. This is the one thing that stops us in our tracks and is the barrier to achieving what we can naturally do.
  • Sprinbok Hamburgers and a Sharks’ Victory
[Recreation-and-Sports:Rugby] Living in the UK and watching rugby played in South Africa while in an Australian bar in Brighton can be an experience of many cultures.

  • How to Make a Million Dollars – Step Five
[Self-Improvement:Motivation] The previous steps towards that Million Dollars, that I have written about are passion, hard work, perseverance and the ability to cope with failure and still continue.
  • Paris Hilton Gets Locked Up
[News-and-Society] Would you consider the news that Paris Hilton gets 45 days in jail, that newsworthy that it knocks off events such as the war in Iraq or Dafur off the front page of the BBC newsletter today?
  • Digg Got Buried
[Internet-and-Businesses-Online:Social-Media] The recent stand-off and subsequent back down at Digg was an interesting example of the power of the internet users if they combine their efforts.
  • Do Gays Still Need To Hide Their Sexual Preference?
[Relationships:Sexuality] Lord Browne resigned as chief executive from BP on May 1 with immediate effect. This move was in response to a court battle he had lost. He had unsuccessfully tried to stop a newspaper from printing details of his relationship with a rent-boy.
  • Classic FM in The UK
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Music] For the last couple of months, I have been listening to Classic FM in the UK. Besides the great music they play, their presenters are across the board great to listen to as well. What I have noticed though have been some trends in the classical music that have been quite surprising. Of course, they are just personal observations!
  • I Want To Be A Fireman When I Grow Up
[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] Do you remember when you were a kid and the world was such an easy place to be living in and to understand. Everything was so straightforward.
  • I Can Do This
[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] What would you do right now, if you did not have any fears? Would you dance, sing, joyfully watch the sunrise?
  • Iraq is About Money Not the War on Terror
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] An interesting article in The New York Times discusses the American-financed rebuilding program in Iraq. Which if my memory serves me right, were contracts awarded to predominantly Bush cronies. Of course I could be buying into a conspiracy theory here.
  • Freedom Day in South Africa
[News-and-Society:Politics] Freedom Day, on April 27, in South Africa celebrates the very first free and democratic elections to be held in the country, ever.
  • Searching for Excellence
[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] This is a marketing story. But it could quite easily apply to ones life. I was reading the list of top 50 restaurants in the world as per the S Pellegrino Awards announced in April 2007.
  • So The US Is Pulling Out Of Iraq
[News-and-Society:Politics] Does Blair know this? Of course just because the US House of Representatives have approved a bill making further funding of the war in Iraq conditional on a timetable for a US Troop pullout doesn’t mean that this will happen.
  • Bad Behaviour in Schools – A Major Problem
[Reference-and-Education] The question of discipline in schools is a fairly serious one. Reading on BBC’s website some archived news stories on schools in the UK, it is amazing to see that some teachers are being attacked, bullied, harassed in cyber space and in general are having a tough time of it.
  • International Sanctions against Sudan
[News-and-Society:Politics] I have never been able to understand the concept of Sanctions. The last few instances of sanctions on countries have been on Zimbabwe where people are starving to death, North Korea where people are starving to death and now possibly Sudan where people are starving to death already.
  • What Will Make You Really Happy?
[Self-Improvement:Happiness] In life we make the biggest mistake of all, and that is we expect external things or people to make us happy. If I had a fabulous husband/partner/lover I would be happy for ever.
  • Unemployment Woes
[Business:Careers-Employment] The Northern parts of France, the traditional industrial areas, are being blighted by job woes. The last coal mines shut down in 1974, and the textile industry is quietly moving to greener pastures, for that read, cheaper labor.
  • I Couldn’t Finish the London Marathon Because It Was Too Hot
[Self-Improvement:Coaching] Officials of the London Marathon think this year could be a record in terms of heat on the day of the race. It is expected that the anticipated 23C could break the record temperature of 21C recorded in 1996.
  • Take Responsibility for Your Life
[Self-Improvement:Motivation] For me, Christopher Reeve personifies the idea of using personal power to take responsibility for one’s life.
  • More College Killings in the States
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] In one of the deadliest shootings in US history, a lone gunman shot and killed 32 people before killing himself. It is the worst bloodbath in a college or university in the United States. When I first saw the headlines, I felt total shock, and then almost immediately a sense and question mark of – what again?
  • William Hogarth Exhibition at the Tate Britain
[Arts-and-Entertainment] Excellent exhibition of work by William Hogarth at the Tate Britain…

I was fortunate to be able to visit the William Hogarth exhibition at the Tate Britain. Often these special exhibitions tend to promise a lot and deliver little. Previously a Leonardo da Vinci drawings exhibition which I visited at the National Art Gallery was quite disappointingly sparse. Besides that, it was packed and I couldn’t really enjoy the few pieces on display as it was difficult to get close enough to examine the detailed drawings.

  • How to Make a Million Dollars – Step Four
[Self-Improvement:Success] So far, in previous articles on how to make a Million Dollars, I have written about passion being essential, hard work definitely has to be part of the action and perseverance being the third step necessary in a quest for making real money.
  • World Bank President Wolfowitz Needs To Resign
[News-and-Society:Politics] At the time that Paul Wolfowitz was appointed as president of the World Bank in 2005 I wondered how the Deputy Secretary of Defense would handle a position that required a smidgen of knowledge of economic and finance matters. One would think.
  • Your Life And You – Compatible?
[Self-Improvement:Motivation] Here’s a story for you. A newspaper I was reading talked about a Reverend Billy in the United States, who although no ordained minister, was out with his church choir every day, preaching against consumerism.

  • Hillary Clinton for First Madam President
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Personally, I am hoping that Hillary Clinton will make it to the White House.

One of the best clauses in the American constitution must be that the American President has to step down after two terms. Good-bye Mr George W Bush, job well done though if one judges his term as to the amount of damage…

  • How to Make a Million Dollars – Step Two
[Self-Improvement:Attraction] Still believing in having a million dollars wander into your bank account with no work involved and it just happens because you imagine it every day? So it has been working for you then? Not really, I would imagine.

[News-and-Society] The presidential race in the Democratic party is hotting up.
  • Bring Out The Morals Police
[News-and-Society:Crime] News in the UK at the moment covers a bizarre item, although nobody seems to think it is bizarre. It’s about the ‘Talking’ CCTV cameras that will tell off people dropping litter or committing anti-social behaviour.
  • How to Make a Million Dollars – Step One
[Self-Improvement:Success] If you are like most of us, looking at wealthy people with some envy and wishing you had the same ‘luck’ in making money it is quite a thought to wonder whether you could actually make a million Dollars yourself.
  • No Sign of Robert Mugabe Retiring?
[News-and-Society:Politics] The western developed world has no idea what is happening with Robert Mugabe and Zimbabwe. Their expectation that this African country is actually going to play according to European and American values, political principles and rules is so far off the mark, it’s not on the same page, in fact not even in the same book.
  • Does A Holy Book Tell Us To Fight A War?
[News-and-Society:Politics] During history, the number of wars which have been fought with the bible or other book in the hand, are almost too numerous to count. The question is whether the religious teachings in these holy books, of whatever persuasion, cause these wars.

    Tim Berbers-Lee – founder of the World-Wide-Web

  • The Brand of Harry Potter
[Arts-and-Entertainment] One idea that the Harry Potter books has put to bed, surely, is that children and people in general don’t read books anymore. One would think. It comes as a surprise then that a survey conducted by Teletext of a study of 4 000 Britons found that almost half of the books they bought remained unfinished
  • Death Threats Frighten A Blogger Into Hiding
[Internet-and-Businesses-Online:Blogging] Kathy Sierra’s story will frighten women bloggers world wide. Kathy has received a series of death threats which have forced her to cancel a public appearance at ETech in San Diego and suspend her blog.

  • Self-Employment And Work Experience
[Business:Careers-Employment] It is often said that the work experience one gains working for companies is more important and relevant than if one were to learn the same from working for oneself.
  • Gotta-Get Goals
[Self-Improvement:Goal-Setting] It’s a challenge to identify goals that really matter.
  • Why Don’t We Go For Self-Employment?
[Business:Careers-Employment] One of the huge questions the parents would ask during the course of the demo was what the job opportunities were for their offspring. This seemed to be one of the most pressing questions.
  • Religious Tolerance is Difficult
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Some immigrants, sometimes-illegal ones, have moved into European countries with strong religious leanings. Their religious and cultural beliefs, which confirm their identity to them, are quite different to the ones practiced in the host country. These beliefs may cause clashes in the host country, which need to be worked out. These tend to be really difficult to address though.
  • Big Brother Will Be Able to Watch Everything
[Finance] The prediction that there would be a cashless society, have been around for a while of course. Famously they have always been part of science fiction stories.
  • Paris Hilton The Bad Little Rich Girl Again
[News-and-Society] I think that Paris Hilton, even though one could write her off as just another blond bimbo, has worked out that the more she gets drunk, dances on tables and delivers any other semi-scandalous activity, the better her publicity rankings. If she were a demure little rich girl, nobody would bother over her.
  • Britney Spears’ Famous Locks
[News-and-Society] According to a recent BBC report in February, 2007, it said that the hair studio owned by an Esther Tognozzi, has now set up a website to auction off Ms Britney’s famous locks…
  • Piracy – What Not To Do To Stop It
[Legal:Copyright] Best way to deal with piracy is to buy into the free promotion and publicity hype, rather than get defensive and sue.

What is however even more interesting is that the web is one of the quickest disseminating places. With other words, you post it on this website, and in the blink of an eye, it has been copied and is on somebody else’s website.

  • It’s Getting Hotter, Or Hadn’t You Noticed?
[News-and-Society:Environmental] Now the scientists are scrapping as to whether the global warming is man-made or not. How are we mere mortals going to cope with that?

  • Let’s Not Discuss Crime In South Africa
[News-and-Society:Crime] Internationally renowned Zulu historian David Rattray was shot and killed in his home in South Africa on January 26, 2007. Rattray was a friend of England’s Prince Charles. I am presuming this could have been through Polo, amongst other connections, the Rattray family being quite prominent participants in the sport. Besides the international connection, Rattray also counted local business people amongst his friends.
  • The Law Of Attraction Is An Interesting Idea
[Self-Improvement:Attraction] The self-development market of speakers, books, seminars and more, is huge. Does that mean there is a ground swell of people who are looking for a better deal in life? That seems to be the case, for if people weren’t exploring this field, there would be no market for bestseller books and courses, or documentaries such as The Secret.
  • SEO – 10 Easy Steps To Try Your Hand At It
[Internet-and-Businesses-Online:SEO] Note these points to start your journey into search engine optimisation.
  • Who Is Responsible For Carbon Footprints?
[News-and-Society:Environmental] According to the BBC which is commenting on a report, the over 50s are the worst carbon culprits. Apparently the age group between 50 and 64 produce on average 13.52 tonnes of carbon per person. The rest of the UK average is 11.81 tonnes. Contributing to this carbon footprint for this age group are high car dependence, holidays abroad and eating out. To me these seem to be examples of lifestyle choices.

[Travel-and-Leisure:Airline-Travel] A trip from Heathrow to Cape Town is now an experience that could be rated as fairly unpleasant. It seems that travelling is not for the faint hearted anymore.
